Jane Eyre- Charlotte Bronte
My all-time favourite book ever. It has all the emotional highs and lows that I love plus a girl with a back bone.
"I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am
a free human being with an independent will."
- Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre
-Gotta love her!
Memoirs of a Geisha -Arthur Golding
Beautifully written. I could not believe this was written by a man! This covers most of this woman's life and has all the drama I love. Childhood tragedy, strength of character, jealousy, kindness, revenge , love, it has them all.
“He was like a song I'd heard once in fragments but had been singing in my mind ever since.”
― Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha
The god of Small things -Arundhati Roy
More beautifully written prose. This one covers the life of twins in India It is written in several parts, all surrounding several life changing events. Huge tragedy and heart warming tenderness all mixed in with Arundhati's peculiar sense of shock and humour
“Being with him made her feel as though her soul had escaped from the narrow confines of her island country into the vast, extravagant spaces of his. He made her feel as though the world belonged to them- as though it lay before them like an opened frog on a dissecting table, begging to be examined.”
― Arundhati Roy, The God of Small Things
